Welcome to The Institute of Seamanship
The history and purpose of the Institute of Seamanship
The Institute of Seamanship was founded by Lieutenant Commander Tom Peppitt, RNR in 2000 with Admiral of the Fleet Sir Julian Oswald as President , Commander Neil Murray as Secretary and Mr Bruce Jenkins as Treasurer. Tom Peppitt became Chairman.
These four have since retired and were replaced by the four currently in office. Dr Elinor Romans became Honorary Editor of the Journal, taking over from Neil Murray who had, in addition to his role as secretary, edited the journal.
Members come from all backgrounds, but with a common interest in seamanship, whether practical or theoretical, historical or as practised today and may be practised tomorrow.
